Remember the days when you could visit your favorite drug store, sit at the counter with a friend, and order a banana split sundae? Those days seem to have long gone but the members of Gloucester Point Baptist Church have brought back those memories of bananas topped with scoops of ice cream, covered with chocolate syrup, nuts and cherries. They held two sessions this summer where a 10-foot banana split was made as a treat for those who had attended Sports Camp at the church. So successful was this endeavor they made a 20-foot banana split as a treat for the closing of Vacation Bible School.
To assemble and serve these massive banana splits, scoopers started 1-2 days ahead of time, scooping all of the ice cream needed. Volunteers needed to serve included two people slicing bananas, three people placing ice cream in the container (they used plastic gutters), one or two pouring chocolate syrup, one or two adding sprinkles, and one or two topping it off with cherries.
