“In my Father’s House are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
-John 14:2-3
Our beloved Nancy Marie Burrell departed this earth to meet and forever dwell with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 16, 2023, with loved ones by her side.
Nancy was born on June 30, 1958, to Elenora Pollard and Timothy Burrell in Gloucester County, Virginia. A lifetime resident of Gloucester, Nancy was a beacon of light to anyone that she met. Her humble spirit radiated within the community. She found great pleasure in spending time with her family, especially for special occasions such as birthdays and holidays. Nancy was educated in the Gloucester School System and continued her education at Kee Business College. Her craftsmanship, attention to detail, and talent with a needle and thread caused her to be everyone’s favorite seamstress. Nancy’s love of and care for others led her to be the loving caregiver of the matriarch of the family, her mother Elenora, for over 10 years.
The impact of Nancy’s life will be felt for years to come and her legacy will live on forever through the many stories she shared, the memories of those who had the opportunity to know her, and those touched by her love. With over 40 years of love and memories, Nancy is survived by the love of her life, Eric Cook; stepson, Eric Carter, and stepdaughters, Sherri Jenkins, LaTisha Cook. Also left to cherish her memory are her two sisters, Lena Redmon and Thelma Pollard; three brothers, Moses Pollard, Harold Burrell, and Timothy Burrell (Suzanne), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. Nancy is survived by over 20 nieces and nephews, and will be deeply missed by all but most notably her “favorites,” Shawn Burrell and Roman Burrell whom she loved dearly. Nancy will also be missed and her memory cherished by her close friends, Dorothy Wallace, Verona “Sis” Ruffin, and Pauline Paige.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Timothy Burrell; her mother, Elenora Pollard, and brothers, Herbert Redmon, Johnny Redmon, Smith Redmon, Preston Robinson, and Allen Pollard.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 11227 Woods Cross Roads, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
