NANCY LEE (WILBURN) DAVENPORT

Nancy Lee (Wilburn) Davenport was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on November 20, 1937. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1954. Nancy met and fell in love with her future husband, Bud Davenport, while he was visiting Gloucester on breaks from serving in the USMC. Nancy married Bud on January 28, 1956. The couple was married for 60 years.

Nancy and Bud had four children and settled in Williamsburg in 1969. Five grandchildren later followed. Nancy worked in the fashion shop of Eastern State Hospital before retiring in 1995, after more than 20 years.

Nancy’s retirement life included long-term volunteer commitments at the Pineapple Gift Shop in the Williamsburg hospital, and serving school lunch at her grandchildren’s school, Walsingham Academy. She was a long-term patron of the ASPCA and Operation Smile.

Nancy relished the role of grandmother, and she was often seen cheering on her grandchildren at sporting events and Chamber Ballet performances.

Nancy was also an avid crafter, a lifelong Tom Jones fan, and even a blue-ribbon winner for her Crab Dip recipe.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen “Bud” Norman Davenport Jr.; their beloved son, Allen “Andy” Norman Davenport III, and her parents, Nelson Wilson and Betty Mae Ware.

She is beloved by her children, Kim, Scott and Gaye and grandchildren, Brandi, Jessica, Kasey, Kristin, and Jacob.

The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring nurses and certified nursing aides for all of their wonderful care.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 14, at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg. The family requests casual dress attire. Interment will be private.
