NANCY GIBBS MCDANIEL

Nancy Gibbs McDaniel died on December 18, 2024, at her home. She was born on July 21, 1933, in Richmond, Virginia, and she had lived in Gloucester since 1961. Nancy loved her home, nature and the peace that she found there.
Nancy was preceded in death by her sorely missed husband, Vernon “Bill” McDaniel; her parents, Curtis and Mae Gibbs; two brothers, Curtis Jr. and John, and her sister, Charlette Clark.

She is survived by her sons, William Rudy McDaniel (Jan) of Lanexa, Vernon Monroe McDaniel Jr. (Sue) and Randall Charles McDaniel of Gloucester; grandchildren, Jena Cumming (Jay), Vernon McDaniel III (Jacklyn), Olivia McDaniel, Ryan McDaniel (Kim), Sarah McDaniel (Brian); great-grandchildren, Corbin, Grant, Emerson, Brinley, Xavier and Diana.
While living in Richmond, Nancy was employed by Esso Standard Oil and the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. She worked for the Gloucester County School System for 27 years, where she served as payroll clerk, billing officer, secretary to the Superintendent and clerk of the board. She made many friends during those years and cherished them until her death.

She was a member of the Ware Junior Woman’s Club and a volunteer for the Museum of History. Nancy also enjoyed her membership and meetings with the Gloucester Retired Educators Association and the Middle Peninsula Virginia Power Retired Association. Volunteering for the Gloucester Salvation Army was a great joy, and she received the 2011 Volunteer of the Office Award. Nancy was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bellamy United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1 p.m., with visitation starting at 12:30. The service will be conducted by Ed Walker. The interment will follow the service in the church cemetery, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Bellamy United Methodist Church or Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
