My daddy serves proudly

Thirty-three years ago, the thoughts of many local residents, as well as Americans everywhere, were half a world away as U.S. and coalition forces were engaged in Operation Desert Storm, liberating Kuwait from Iraq. In February 1991, a silent prayer march was held in Gloucester Court House. The war touched many lives, including that of 15-month-old Brianna Gustafson of Gloucester, above, daughter of BT1 (boiler technician) Brad Gustafson, who served aboard the USS Yellowstone. While a ceasefire was declared on Feb. 28 of that year, hostilities returned in 2003 with the second Persian Gulf War. The U.S. did not formally withdraw from Iraq until December 2011.
