Christian Brown of Mush Love, a start-up mushroom farm in Mathews, gave a talk on March 25 to members of the Mathews Historical Museum about plans for beginning a mushroom consortium in Mathews with two partners, Pat Hanners and Frank Schmidt. He said they’ll be “up and running” around the end of April. He said mushrooms are nutritious, mushroom farming is a very sustainable industry, and Mathews has “a great climate” for growing the edible fungus. Brown spent four years in the Army, then decided to pursue culinary arts and graduated from Johnson & Wales University’s College of Culinary Arts. The talk was in concert with this year’s May Faire theme of “A Rural Life,” focusing on farming, fishing and families.
