Eight members of the Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter indoor training program traveled to T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria on Saturday to compete in the 2013 Mid Atlantic ERG Sprints.
An erg is an indoor rowing machine that is used to replicate the rowing sequence a rower would use in a racing shell. This competition, which was started 28 years ago, is now the largest qualifying event for the World Indoor Rowing Championships. All eight MRA racers found new personal best performances as they competed in various age and weight classes.
Taylor Williams won the Junior Women’s Lightweight 16 event taking the gold in 5:55.1 to beat 27 other entries. Novice Sam Hutson took silver in his first try at indoor racing, missing gold by five seconds and scoring better than 54 other entries in the Junior Men’s Open Weight 15 event.
