MPFAA to hold program on English country houses

The Middle Peninsula Fine Arts Association of Gloucester will present the program “The Murder and the Manor House: Agatha Christie and the Changing Fortunes of the English Country House” at 7:15 p.m. next Thursday, April 17 at Arts on Main, 6580 Main Street, Gloucester. It is free and open to the public.
Those who would like to join in dinner with association members starting at 5:45 p.m. should email mpfaa1958@gmail.com no later than Sunday. The cost is $23.
The speaker, Anne Kenny- Urban, is executive director of Richmond’s Agecroft Hall & Gardens. She will explore what beloved author Agatha Christie’s mysteries reveal about changes in English country houses and the people who worked in them.
For five decades, Christie’s primary obsession was murder, said a press release, but her interest in houses was a close second, particularly the English country house. Taken together, some of her most popular works offer a keen look at these quintessentially British houses in the 20th centur...
