Middlesex County man dies in Rt. 17 collision

An accident shortly before noon on Monday on Route 17 in northern Gloucester County resulted in the death of a Middlesex County man.
According to Matthew Demlein of the Virginia State Police, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and a 2008 Ford F-350 were both traveling northbound on Route 17, near Glenns Road, when the Elantra and the F-350 collided. The Elantra then ran off the road and overturned in the median.VSP is still working to determine which vehicle is at fault in this crash.
The driver of the Elantra, Percy Lockley Jr., 61, of Topping, was not wearing a seatbelt, and was ejected. Lockley died at the scene. The three people in the F-350 were not injured.
Northbound traffic on Route 17 was closed for several hours following the crash, reopening around 4 p.m.
This is the first fatality on Gloucester County roads in 2024.
