The Mathews High School wrestling team won three of five matches over the weekend at the Cosby Duals at Midlothian’s Cosby High School, the last tournament of the season.
The MHS wrestlers were defeated by Oakton High School with a final score of 48-34, following with a loss to the hosts from Cosby with a score of 54-22.
Following that, MHS pulled off a streak of three wins to end the tournaments, defeating Hargrave Military School 42-38; Riverside 45-33 and Yorktown 53-21.
Salvador Cardenas managed to go undefeated at this tournament, improving his season record to 24-5, with all his wins coming from pins. Ivan Schaible also obtained an undefeated label for this tournament, with two of his matches won by forfeit, one being a tech fall against his opponent from Riverside, and a minor decision against his Cosby match.
