The Mathews High School wrestling team picked up wins over Nandua and Washington and Lee last Wednesday in a home meet. MHS wrestlers went 14-4 in individual matches to beat the Warriors, 46-27, and the Eagles, 48-32.
Scoring pins against Nandua were Caleb Miller (106 lbs., :37), Harrison Cullison (113 lbs., :50), Bill Bower (160 lbs., 2:21) and James Pavik (220 lbs., :43). Matt Rouland (132 lbs.) scored a 9-0 major decision over Jonathan Tapman, while Sam Moore (120 lbs.) and Willie Moore (285 lbs.) accepted forfeits.
In the Washington and Lee match, Miller improved to 2-0 on the day and 10-0 for the season, pinning Sergei Minor in :41. Cullison, Rouland, Bower and Pavik also scored their second pins of the day. Bower improved to 11-1 so far this season, while Pavik increased his record to 8-0.
Moore took down Juan Murrillo in :41; Murrillo was ranked third in the region last year at 285. Moore is 7-1 overall. Eric Johnson (138 lbs.) pinned Marcus Wilson in three minutes flat....
