MHS win streak at 4; Legette notches 1,000th point

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team is on a roll, scoring wins in its last four outings. The most recent came last Thursday night at King William and at home on Tuesday against West Point.
And while basketball is definitely a team sport, a couple Blue Devils have earned individual accolades as well, most notably Tae Legette. The senior point guard earned his 1,000th career point last week, scoring 38 points in the 76-70 win over King William. He is also currently ranked second in scoring among all Virginia schools according to MaxPreps.com, averaging 29.7 points per game.
Speaking of MaxPreps.com, Mathews has another player on the leaderboard. Sophomore Jordyn Cosby is ranked third in the state in rebounds as of Wednesday morning with 18.1 rebounds per game, according to the website.
