MHS volleyball season gets underway

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team kicked off its season last Wednesday with a home scrimmage against New Kent. Head coach Pat Moughon used this game, which does not count in team standings, to try different lineups and find the right combinations of players on the court.

The scrimmage showed Moughon exactly what the team needed to work on, and prepared it for the more challenging teams that came to Mathews for Saturday’s Volleyball Jamboree. Players from Warhill, Lafayette, Windsor and Menchville attended the all-day tournament. Each team played two sets with every other team, giving good practice and more experience. Mathews continued to improve against the larger Peninsula-based schools.

 

 

The jayvee volleyball team also began the season last Wednesday night, hosting a scrimmage against New Kent, providing competitive situations in game-like conditions.
