The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team fell in a pair of district matches this past week, losing in straight sets to West Point last Thursday and Middlesex on Tuesday.
Middlesex
Facing off at home against Middlesex, the Mathews girls struggled to get their footing in the first set, falling 25-5. The second set was much like the first but the Blue Devils kept up for a couple points with the Chargers, with Mathews falling 25-12. In the third set, the Blue Devils kept getting better. They played with energy and determination but could not stop the Chargers, losing 25-15.
Grayson Griffith had the highest passing average with a 1.5 out of 3. Lindsay Coons, Nora Suthard and Addison Griffith all served 100 percent . Grayson Griffith also had the highest hitting percentage with a .500.
