MHS volleyball improves to 11-1

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up its 10th and 11th victories of the season this past week on the road, over Northern Neck District opponents Northumberland and Essex.

Mathews kept its composure Thursday when the Northumberland gym got incredibly loud, sweeping the Indians in a three-game match.

The Devils’ offensive was near flawless it seemed with many MHS players putting points on the board. Casey Parrish and Maddie McCann led the Devils with 10 kills each, followed by Mackenzie Moughon with four, Teeny Robbins with three, and Kacie Austin and Rachel Close with one kill apiece.

Serving was equally aggressive as the attacks were, with a team total of 12 aces. Moughon and Parrish had five aces each, and Robbins ended the night with two. Close, Austin and Lindsay Crigler served very aggressively as well. The Devils played all-around good volleyball with great serve receive passing, letting only three points slip away because of it.
