MHS volleyball beats K&Q, falls to Cavs in recent action

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up its second victory of the season, defeating King and Queen in three sets at home on Sept. 27. The team had made it into the win column earlier in the month against Charles City.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Devils fell in straight sets against the visiting King William Cavaliers. The varsity girls dropped the first two by scores of 25-15 and 25-5, and fought the Cavs hard in the third and final set, but came up short, 25-23.
Before the varsity matchup, the JV Devils lost to the Cavaliers, 2-1. The MHS junior varsity girls won the first set, 25-22, but dropped the next two by margins of 25-14 and 15-11. Individual stats from the varsity and JV games were not available at press time.
Tuesday’s game was Dig Pink night for Mathews volleyball. Local residents who succumbed to cancer were remembered and cancer survivors were honored in a brief ceremony before the varsity matchup. A bake sale was held with proceeds going to the Giving Ga...
