MHS varsity girls drop two

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team traveled to King William last Thursday to face the Cavaliers, and hosted the West Point Pointers on Tuesday night. The MHS girls fell in both contests, 3-0.
King William
In last Thursday’s matchup, the first set was rough with the Blue Devils still finding their footing. The Blue Devils lost that set 9-25. The next sets weren’t much better; the Blue Devils kept up with the Cavaliers for the first couple of points then lost both ending sets 13-25, giving the Cavaliers the win.
Lindsay Coons, Nora Suthard and Addison Griffith all had 100 percent serving. Bentlea Lawrence had the highest passing average with a 1.86 out of 3. Kaitlyn Ball had the highest hitting percentage with a 1.000.

On Tuesday, the Blue Devils welcomed the Pointers’ volleyball team. Mathews lost the first set 11-25 putting the Pointers in the lead. The second and third sets were much of the same. The Devils could not get their footing and lost both sets 14-25 g...
