MHS varsity girls drop two

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team suffered a pair of straight-set defeats this past week, falling to the visiting Middlesex Chargers last Thursday and dropping a game on the road to Essex Monday.
Middlesex
Last Thursday’s game started strong for the Chargers with the first set, ending in a score of 25-16. The Middlesex girls dominated the second set, 25-9. Mathews fought its way through the third set, but eventually lost by a 25-18 margin.
Essex
The Lady Devils’ woes continued on the road on Monday. In spite of strong play, Mathews fell in the first set, 25-20.
Throughout the second set, the Blue Devils fought hard to keep pace with the balls coming back quickly, but they lost, 25-15. During the last set the balls continued to fly but the Devils lost the third set, 25-22 and the match.
On Tuesday, Mathews will look to get back into the win column on the road against King and Queen.
