The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Northumberland High School on April 12 for a quad meet, along with teams from King and Queen and St. Margaret’s School.
The MHS girls finished second, with junior Sarah Taylor returning from injury to win both hurdle events and the girls’ high jump. Cora Rowe won the 3200-meter run. Freshman Grayson Griffith recorded personal bests in the 100m and 200m sprints and long jump.
The boys also finished second, with senior Ja’Marri Henderson winning the high jump, 110 high hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Senior Cameron Stearns won the 1600-meter run, setting a PR. Freshman Keith Taylor set a PR in the high jump.
“Overall it was a good showing as times and jumps continue to improve,” said coach Tony Forrest. “We are a young team and I am pleased with the hard work the students are putting in.”
The teams were scheduled to travel to West Point on Tuesday. The next meet will be at King William High School on Thursday, April 28.
