The Mathews High School track teams traveled back to Northumberland last Wednesday to take on the Essex Trojans, Washington and Lee Eagles, and the NHS Indians in their second quad meet in two weeks.
Both the boys and the girls managed third-place finishes overall, with 46 points for the girls and 38 for the boys, ahead of W&L (girls with 24, boys with 33), but falling behind Northumberland (48 for girls, 63 for boys) and Essex.
In the girls, the high jump was controlled by junior Sharnice Williams, who took second with a height of 4’4"; freshman Shyanne Gordon, who was third with 4’4"; and senior Sabrina Myers, who was fifth with 4’2". Gordon also won the 100m hurdles and placed fourth overall in the 300m intermediate hurdles.
Also running hurdles was sophomore Vanessa Forrest, who got second with a time of 59.3 seconds in the 300m hurdles and fourth in the 100m hurdles. Meanwhile, Myers finished the 1-mile run in fourth place with a time of 6:26, alongsi...
