Representatives of the Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Charles City Saturday to take part in their first invitational of the 2013 season.
Facing off against 19 other squads, spread out between A, AA, and even some AAA schools, the Blue Devils managed to take home a 15th place finish for the girls, with a score of nine points overall, and an 18th place finish for the boys, with seven points.
For the girls, freshman Mariah Robinson took a 36th place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 14.96 seconds, and a 31st place finish in the 200m dash, at 31.94 seconds. Fellow freshman Shyanne Gordon took 16th overall in both the 100m hurdles (20.2 seconds) and the 300m hurdles (58.98 seconds).
