The Mathews High School track and field team opened its outdoor season last Thursday in Charles City.
Highlights of the meet were Nora Suthard winning the triple jump, high jump, 200m, and long jump. She also placed second in the 100m. She qualified for the state championships in the 100m, 200m, high jump and triple jump. Jordan Sadeq finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles.
On the boys’ side, Keith Taylor won the long jump and the 400m and placed third in the high jump and second in the triple jump. He qualified for the state championships in the long jump. Donovan Forrest won the 110-meter hurdles in a state leading time of 15.76 seconds, qualifying for states in the 110H and the 100m. He also placed second in the 300H. Gavin Dustin won the 800m and qualified for states. The boys’ 4x800 relay team also qualified for states.
