MHS track athletes compete at K&Q, West Point

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams traveled to King and Queen last Thursday for the Central Tigers’ second home meet.
MHS freshman Nora Suthard continued her hot streak with a first-place finish in the girls’ 100-meter dash and a second-place finish in long jump. Senior Sarah Taylor won both the girls’ 100-meter hurdles and high jump. The girls’ 4x100 meter relay finished second while the boys’ 4x400 meter relay team brought home third.
Keith Taylor had an impressive showing with second place in the 200 meter, long jump, and triple jump, and a third-place finish in the high jump. Donovan Forrest placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.29. Jon Jenkins led all 3,200-meter runners with a 11:50.60 to win the meet. Sophomore Jordyn Cosby finished third in discus with a 114’1” throw and fifth in shot put with a toss of 36’9”.
