On Jan. 18, seven Mathews High School Blue Devil Band students traveled to Hampton to participate in the VBODA District VIII All-District Honor Band Auditions.
Each of these students performed scales, a prepared piece, and a sight reading piece by themselves for two judges in a blind audition. This audition was held alongside students from Gloucester, Hampton, Newport News, York and Williamsburg, among other counties and cities in the area.
Three of the MHS students were selected to participate in the All-District Honor Band based on their performance in this audition. Toby Eskins placed eighth chair in the Concert Band on Trumpet, Hunter Owens placed first chair in the Concert Band on Contra-Alto Clarinet, and Jordan Sadeg placed third chair in the Concert Band on Bb Clarinet.These three students are scheduled to travel to Woodside High School in Newport News today, Thursday, Jan. 30, through Saturday, for rehearsals with guest directors, and will perform a concert in the Woodside Hig...
