Mathews High School’s students of the month for January were recognized last week. They are (bottom from left), freshman Addison Griffith, sophomore Akilesh Jaquez, junior Layla McBurney and senior Savannah Collins. Students are chosen from nominations by a committee of faculty members who evaluate academic standing, attendance, completing work on time, and character. At the end of the school year, a student of the year is awarded at each grade level, chosen from among the monthly winners.
