Mathews High School’s students of the month for December and January are eighth grader Falon Cook, freshman Elizabeth Moore, sophomore Lily Bell, junior Nolen Swan and senior Lindsay Coons (below from left to right). Students are chosen from nominations by a committee of faculty members who evaluate academic standing, attendance, completing work on time, and character. At the end of the school year, a student of the year is named at each grade level, chosen from the monthly winners. December and January were combined since both ended up being short months, according to the school’s guidance department.
