MHS softball blanks Middlesex, 10-0

The Mathews High School varsity softball team closed out the regular season last Thursday with a 10-0 shutout win over the visiting Middlesex Chargers.
Before the first pitch, the seniors on both the varsity softball and baseball teams were recognized in special ceremony (the baseball team had planned for its Senior Night game the same day, but that contest against Middlesex was canceled because of the flooded field conditions in Mathews).
Seniors on the baseball team recognized were Dawson Adams, Thomas Hubbard, Ethan Hudgins and Aidan West. Softball seniors honored included Chelsea Armistead, Reese Brock, Morgan Crittenden, Aly Jackson and Melody Smith.
In the softball game, Crittenden pitched a one-hit shutout, collecting five strikeouts in the win. She also had a single and two runs scored.
