MHS soccer teams post wins

The Mathews High School soccer program had a busy week, with road games last Wednesday, Friday and Monday. Among the games, the MHS boys posted wins on Wednesday at King William (2-1) and Friday at Northumberland (4-2) while the girls picked up their first win of the season on Monday, shutting out Westmoreland, 5-0.
King William
The teams traveled to King William last Wednesday. The JV Blue Devils won their first game of the season, letting no goals past their keepers. The Devils scored nine goals, ending the game, 9-0. Freshman Chase Ambrose started the first half of the game in the goal, holding the Cavaliers scoreless. Players that scored for the JV team were Christian Miranda, Ashton O’Leary, Chase Ambrose, Carlos Clayborn, Corey Zheng and Elton Hudgins.
The varsity girls fell to the Cavaliers, 4-3, in their first game. Lauren Johnson scored the first goal for the Blue Devils by a penalty kick, followed by Hailey Denkinger, and Adelle Hudgins. Lauren Johnson missed her second penal...
