MHS scholarship established in memory of Willie Dixon

A new annual scholarship has been established for a deserving, qualifying Mathews High School senior in the memory of Willie Dixon.
The Willie Edward Dixon Generosity Fund was initially cultivated since the passing of the 84-year-old Mathews County native in January of 2021, a release stated. “The fund will be flourishing on a yearly basis in hopes of carrying on a legacy, but ultimately invoke benefits to a student in need,” according to the release. “This opportunity to peak a youth’s spiritual formation on their life journey is an extreme honor.”
A typed essay and two letters of recommendation are required to be considered for the $1,000 scholarship. Applications are due by April 15. The 500-word essay is on the following topic: “How can you care for others the way God cares for you?”
Copies of the application are available from the guidance office at MHS. For more information, contact Darius Dixon at DarjDix@gmail.com.
