Mathews High School principal Drew Greve shared some encouraging news about the progress of advanced students at the school over the past few years during Tuesday’s school board meeting, which was held in the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium.
Metrics such as dual enrollment participation, and Advanced Placement, SAT and PSAT test results all show a steady climb over the past four school years.
Participation in dual enrollment courses increased from 118 students in 2020-2021 to 131 this past year; mean AP test scores went from 1.57 to 2.90 in the same time span, while the number of AP tests taken jumped from seven in 2020-2021 to 21 in 2023-2024. SAT and PSAT test averages also rose, most dramatically in the students’ PSAT performance this past year, where the MHS average was 42 points above the state average and 63 points above the global average.
