MHS, Mobjack host 33rd annual May Regatta

The Mathews High School crew and Mobjack Rowing Association hosted their 33rd annual MHS May Regatta this past Saturday at Williams Wharf, on the East River.
It would have been the 35th consecutive event but for two years lost to Covid restrictions. The day dawned to beautiful weather and rowing conditions that held steady throughout the six-hour regatta.
The MHS crew of 20 rowers entered 10 of the 24 scheduled events, netting two firsts, four seconds, four thirds, two fourth and four fifth-place finishes.
Mathews faced rowers from Forest Park of Fairfax, River City Crew of Richmond, Great Bridge from Chesapeake, Granby from Norfolk, Princess Anne and Catholic high schools from Virginia Beach, and Gloucester High School.
Racing highlights for Mathews include first-, third- and fourth-place finishes by Lillian Copeland, Lisa Zerbe and Felicity Hargrave, respectively, in the women’s single. Ben Stroud and Jaxon McDonald pulled a gold finish with Matt Morgan and Sam Tomcany taking fourth ...
