The Mathews High School boys’ basketball teams posted victories Friday night against the visiting King and Queen Tigers, with the JV Devils dominating the Tigers, 36-14, and the varsity Blue Devils winning the nightcap, 55-43.
JV Devils
In the first game of a tripleheader that also included the MHS varsity girls, the JV Devils controlled the game from the jump to beat the Tigers by 22 points. Mathews held a commanding 14-2 first-quarter lead, heading into halftime up, 16-4.
Stanley Ouma led the JV Devils in points with 11, followed by Zay Altman with nine.
Varsity Devils
The varsity boys’ game began slowly with the Tigers holding the ball on offense, patiently waiting for a shot. Mathews finally began to push the pace in the second quarter and opened the game up, going into the locker room at halftime with a 10-point lead.
