The Mathews High School junior varsity volleyball team came back from losing its opening game on Monday to win the next two and the match against the homestanding Essex Trojans.
This game was very entertaining with more than seven aces from the Lady Devils. Five of those aces came from Marley Brock, with Harmony Smith and Ellie Congrove also serving aces.
The two squads battled fiercely in the first game, with Essex taking the win, 25-23. Mathews battled back to take the second, 25-22, setting up a third and deciding game, which the Lady Devils took, 15-7.
Middlesex
Last Thursday, the Mathews girls played host to Middlesex. Although Mathews played a strong game, the visiting Chargers took the contest, 2-0, winning the two games by scores of 25-12 and 25-10.
Congrove started the match for Mathews with an ace, and Hannah Davis also went on a run, scoring an ace.Mathews will travel to King and Queen on Tuesday, with the JV game starting at 5:30 p.m.
