In the first outing this year for the Mathews High School JV football team, the Blue Devils took on their Red Devil counterparts last Wednesday at Ken Brown Field at MHS.
While the Mathews JV players put up a good fight, they fell to Lancaster, 26-14.
“I think [the] JV’s game shown that we have been working hard all season and it’s starting to show,” said Mathews head coach Dustin Mullins. “We’re starting to catch on and that second half was electric for us. We were feeding off each other from offense to defense … I thought after we cleaned up some mental mistakes as we knew we would face we came alive in that game and showed what we can do when we execute.”
David White took the helm as the JV coach and “he’s been doing a great job preparing our young guys,” Mullins said. Mathews had two strong drives in the second half to score the Blue Devil points.
