MHS indoor track athletes have standout performances

Mathews High School had several standout athletic performances on Saturday at an indoor track meet at the Boo Williams Sportplex in Hampton.
Among noteworthy results, Sarah Taylor finished third in the girls’ high jump and lowered her time in the 55-meter hurdles, head coach Tony Forrest said. Gavin Dustin had a personal best in the long jump, Lorena Carballo ran the 300m in :55, Joice Small had a 27’ throw in the shot put and Haley Hoell had a personal best in the 55-meter hurdles, Forrest said.
The MHS boys’ and girls’ teams travel to Northumberland High School for a meet Friday. On Wednesday, Feb. 16, the teams return to the Boo Williams Sportsplex for the regional tournament, where the athletes hope to earn a spot to compete in the VHSL state tournament on March 2-3 at Liberty University.
