The Mathews High School golf team competed in its second match of the year last Wednesday, Aug. 14, traveling to the Golden Eagle Golf Club in Irvington to face Lancaster.
Mathews posted a team score of 215, falling to the Red Devils, who scored 191, according to MHS golf coach Jake Johnson.
Chase Ambrose again shot the lowest score for his team, ending with 52, followed by Bryce West with 53.“Overall, we took the loss but I’m still seeing improvement from these young men,” Johnson said. “They still managed to shoot better as a team on a very tough course. I see potential in these guys and the sky is the limit for all of them. I look forward to see their growth as we continue our season.”
Mathews golfers return to the links on Monday, Aug. 26, when the Blue Devils head to Hobbs Hole Golf Course in Tappahannock to face Essex.
