MHS golfers beat Essex

The Mathews High School golf team split a pair of matches this week, falling to Northumberland 162-206 last Wednesday and beating Essex on Tuesday, 226-232.
Against Northumberland, Chase Ambrose was the Devils’ low scorer with a 48. Other counting scores came from Ben Stroud, Bryce West and Fabian Cardenas.
Tuesday’s match against Essex was the final regular season match for MHS, which ended the season with a 3-6 record. Cardenas led the Mathews golfers with a 54. Other counting scores were turned in by Ambrose, Stroud and Evan Brennan.
The regional match will be held Tuesday at the Golden Eagle in Irvington.
