The Mathews High School girls’ varsity basketball team posted a victory over Lancaster last Wednesday night but dropped two more games to Northern Neck foes.
After losing to Northumberland in the season opener, Mathews had a better offensive night on Dec. 4, scoring 40 points while holding Lancaster to 31.
Taylor South and Madison Owens led the team in scoring each with eight, followed closely by Hannah Rowe and Maria Spadaccini each scoring seven. Mariah Robinson scored four points while Shanice Williams and Whitney Eriksen had two each. Savannah Wooten and Emily Brown each scored one point for Mathews.
In the first home game, the Blue Devils fell short to Rappahannock losing the match, 46-41. MHS again found itself in a hole early, trailing 16-5 at the end of the first quarter and 25-14 at the half.
