The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team captured two match wins last week on the road.
Traveling to Denbigh High School on March 18, the Lady Blue Devils came away with a 7-0 win. The top six dropped only two games in sweeping the Patriots. Singles winners were Lyla Duff, Liberti Carter, Ella Ward, Jayda Thomas, Rayann Helbig, and Charlotte Bailey. Lyla and Liberti completed the sweep with a 10-0 victory at #1 doubles. Also participating in doubles were Cate Christopher, Bethany Davis, Ayla Martinez and Emily Moughon.
On Friday Mathews came away with a well-played 5-4 win over the Lafayette Rams. Singles winners were Liberti Carter, Ella Ward and Rayann Helbig. Mathews came through with doubles from the number one team of Duff and Carter and the second-seed team, Ward and Delaney Boatman. Marissa Hudgins won her exhibition singles match, 7-5.
The MHS girls were scheduled to host Middlesex on Wednesday.
