The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team split a pair of road games during the past week, sweeping the Charles City Panthers in straight sets last Thursday and falling by a 3-0 margin to King William on Tuesday.
The Lady Devils return to their home court tonight, Thursday, Oct. 5, where they will host the West Point Pointers and celebrate Dig Pink night, raising money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. The JV game starts at 5:30, with the varsity contest beginning around 7 o’clock.
Charles City
Mathews traveled to Charles City last Thursday to face the Panthers. The first set started off great for the Devils with a 10-point run, on the way to a 25-7 win. The second set also went well, as Mathews improved to 2-0 with a 25-8 win. The third and final set was just as quick as the first two; the Blue Devils started it off with three aces in a row, and quickly finished the game, winning 25-16. Lily Jarosz and Chole Schaible were each 100 percent in their serving.
