MHS girls suffer heartbreaking loss to Essex

The Mathews High School varsity softball team suffered a heartbreaking loss last Thursday to the visiting Essex Trojans, 7-6. Mathews led for much of the game, with the Trojans rallying in the top of the seventh to pull ahead for the win.
Morgan Crittenden pitched all seven innings giving up only one earned run and collecting eight strikeouts. Aly Jackson had a double and single with four RBIs. Crittenden, Angel Schultz, Addy Lowe and Christina Wood each added singles.
The Lady Devils host Westmoreland High School today, Thursday, April 6, starting at 5 o’clock.
