MHS girls split pair of volleyball games

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team split a pair of Tidewater District games this past week, defeating West Point in front of a home crowd last Thursday, and falling in straight sets on Tuesday at Middlesex.

Mathews hosted the Pointers last Thursday in the Lady Devils’ annual Pink Out for Cancer game. After a beautiful ceremony honoring and remembering those who have fought cancer, the game began.
The first set started with Autumn Jenkins scoring 10 straight serves, with all points going to Mathews. The rest of the set was close; West Point caught up thanks to its strongest server. Finally, the serve got passed up right to the setter and Mathews got a kill. The rest of the set point-for-point, each point lost was another point back. The first set ended with Mathews winning, 25-22. The second set was just as exciting.
