The Mathews High School varsity softball team suffered a 9-0 shutout loss Monday night at the hands of the visiting Rappahannock Raiders, turning things around just 24 hours later to crush the Charles City Panthers on the road, 25-0.

Monday’s game against the Raiders was a competitive 4-0 contest up until the top of the seventh, when the Mathews defense faltered. Morgan Crittenden was on the mound for MHS, throwing 151 pitches and collecting four strikeouts.
The Devils couldn’t get things going offensively, with only two hits—singles by Aly Jackson and Ashton Hudgins—in the entire game.
Charles City
It was quite a different story on Tuesday, as Mathews collected 15 hits and Christiana Wood pitched a one-hitter through five innings of work, only giving up an infield single, while collecting six strikeouts to earn the win.
