The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team shut out the homestanding Northumberland Indians last Wednesday, 9-0.Singles winners were #1 seed Chelsea Lowe (8-3), followed by Lily Jarosz (8-0), Taylor Wood (8-4), Lyla Duff (8-1), Liberti Carter (8-0) and Jayda Thomas (8-0). Lowe and Jarosz picked up an 8-3 win in #1-seed doubles, followed by Wood and Duff (8-0), and Ella Ward and Carter (8-0).
Exhibition winners were Rayann Helbig and Ashley Cummings.
Mathews was scheduled to travel to Warsaw on Wednesday to face the Rappahannock Raiders and will host Lancaster today, Thursday, April 27, in a rescheduled match.
