MHS girls head into postseason play

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team lost a hard-fought contest on the road to King William Tuesday night, 49-47. The loss drops the team’s record to 12-5 with one more game before entering postseason play.
Senior Joice Small and junior Reese Brock were the top scorers against the Cavs, scoring 36 of the team’s 47 points. Small ended the night with 20 points, while Brock contributed 16.
Sophomore Trinity Reynolds and juniors Kayla Carr and Sarah Ashbaugh accounted for the rest of the Devil scoring with seven points, two points and one point, respectively.
The Mathews girls were scheduled to host Middlesex last night in a Senior Night matchup. The regional tournament begins Monday.
JV Devils
The JV girls, meanwhile, finished up their season this week with losses to Gloucester, Charles City and King William.
