MHS girls dominate Charles City, 3-0

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team split a pair of games in recent action, losing a hard-fought, five-set battle last Thursday to Northumberland and posting a 3-0 sweep of Charles City on Tuesday.

Mathews played host to the visiting Northumberland Indians last Thursday, and the contest started off well for the Devils, who won the first set, 25-13. In the next set, Mathews lost a little bit of control, falling by a 25-12 margin.
The pendulum swung back in the home team’s favor in the third set with an energized Devil squad, winning 25-15. Northumberland fought hard in the fourth game, winning 25-15 and forcing a fifth and deciding game.
Only playing to 15 points, Mathews tried its hardest to keep the game from going to the Indians. However, it was not to be, as the Indians won, 15-8, to take home the win.
