MHS girls clinch district tennis title

The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team clinched the Tidewater District tennis championship defeating West Point last Wednesday, 7-2, and a forfeit from Middlesex High School on Monday.
Lyla Duff got the Blue Devils started with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #1 singles. Brooklyne Fulford followed at number 2 with a tie-breaker win. Liberti Carter (6-1, 7-5), Ella Ward (6-0, 6-2) and Lily Jarosz (6-0, 6-0) also dominated in singles play. Lyla/Liberti and Fulford/Jarosz finished the match with doubles victories.
The Blue Devils will close out the regular season traveling to New Kent on Wednesday and hosting Bruton High School on Friday while recognizing seniors Lily Jarosz and Brooklyne Fulford before beginning regional play next week.
