The Mathews High School varsity softball team wrapped up regular season play with an 8-0 shutout victory over Middlesex Tuesday evening.
The Lady Devils completed the regular season with a 12-7 overall record, 6-0 in conference play. Kelly Adams pitched the first three innings for Mathews, giving up five hits and no walks while striking out four Middlesex batters. Madison Owens pitched the remaining four innings, surrendering three hits and one walk while striking out three.
Bailey Kujawski led the Devils at the plate going 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, and two RBIs. Amanda Miller was 1-for-2 and Keely Crittenden was 2-for-5. Carole Bell, Lexie Miles and Owens each added a single.
To start the postseason, the Mathews girls went into the Conference 42 tournament as the #1 seed, hosting the #4 seed, Charles City, last night.
