MHS girls beat Yellow Jackets, fall to Tigers

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team concluded its regular season last week with games against Northampton and King and Queen. The MHS girls beat the visiting Yellow Jackets last Wednesday, 3-1, and fell to the Royal Tigers the following night by the same margin.
The Lady Devils begin the regional tournament next week with a game Monday against Middlesex. That game will be held at Middlesex High School, beginning at 6 p.m.
Northampton
Last Wednesday, Mathews hosted the Yellow Jackets in a game that was also the team’s senior night. Senior team members Hailey Denkinger, Angel Shultz, Lindsay Coons, Grayson Griffith and Kristin Blake were recognized, as well as statistician Suki Zheng.
The first set started off with the Blue Devils struggling. It was point for point but the Yellow Jackets got ahead and won, 25-18. The Blue Devils did not let this discourage them. They went into the second set with determination and won, 25-17.
