MHS girls beat Yellow Jackets, fall to Tigers

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team defeated the Northampton Yellow Jackets in three straight sets last Thursday. The Lady Devils also started out strong Tuesday night against King and Queen, winning the first set, but dropped the next three to fall to the visiting Tigers.

The Devils and Yellow Jackets were matched well and the first set was point-for-point. The Blue Devils began to expect what was coming back and won the first set, 25-23. The second set was much the same. The Blue Devils earned an early lead on the Yellow Jackets but Northampton kept up just fine, the second set ending with the Blue Devils winning, 25-21. The third set of the game was a nail-biter. The Blue Devils got another lead early in the set but the Yellow Jackets came back throwing over whatever they could. With the fans on the edge of their seats, the Blue Devils won the set, 26-24, giving the Blue Devils the win, 3-0.
